Biothane Items

BioThane ® is the registered brand name of a US company that applies TPU or PVC coating to polyester webbing to create a variety of durable and waterproof products.  Unlike imitation brands, BioThane® stands up well to the test of time.  In 2020 Pandemonium Pets made the shift from working in leather to working in biothane as we were impressed with the variety and longevity of the material.

 

Functionality First is our motto when it comes to BioThane®.  Unlike many of our competitors we sew rather than merely screw or rivet most of our products (there are a few exceptions, such as the rope, where sewing is less feasible).  While rivets or Chicago screws may hold for a time, only sewing is proven to maintain the inherent strength of the material (according to BioThane USA).  With security in mind, most of our products rely on stitching for construction with rivets serving a more decorative function.

 

Here at Pandemonium Pets we stock a variety of BioThane webbings including adjustable weight, standard weight, reflective beta, rope BioThane and grippy biothane.  Each has its own applications; the adjustable is perfect for side-release collars, the rope makes a great lightweight obedience leash, the grippy is wonderful for water sports and the standard weight beta biothane is perfect for everything in-between!

BioThane Collars

The variety of options provided by the BioThane® material means that we can offer collars in a wide range of styles and price points. 

 

Our most affordable option is the adjustable weight collar constructed of lightweight BioThane and a plastic side-release buckle.  Collars are available in Small (8 – 12 inches), Medium (13 – 18 inches), Large (18 – 24 inches) and Extra Large (25 – 30 inches), in ¾ inch and 1-inch widths.

 

Moving into the realm of roller buckle collars, the standard beta BioThane® offers the feel of leather with a wide variety of colours and excellent durability.  These collars are available in our standard sizes [Small (8 – 12 inches), Medium (13 – 18 inches), Large (18 – 24 inches) and Extra Large (25 – 30 inches)].  However, as collars are made to order we encourage you to email us with your dog’s neck size so that the collar is just perfect for your furry friend.  The standard collar comes in ¾ inch, 1- and 1.5-inch widths with your choice of nickel, black or brass hardware.  The standard weight also offers a few fun variations, including reflective biothane and UV printed biothane (the latter is a pricey but stable way to include printed images on to the material).  We also offer custom Heat Transfer Vinyl lettering and single colour designs – email pandemoniumpets@gmail.com to find out more.

 

One of our favourite ways to create a unique piece is to combine two layers of standard BioThane® together in one collar.  These double layer collars can also be combined with custom HTV or UV printed BioThane® and / or decorative rivets and crystals – for more information see our Specialty Collar Section.

In 2024 we introduced the limited slip double-layer collar.  The limited slip collar has a set inner diameter (sized to your dog) and a single layer slip string with D ring that allows you to either slip the collar over your dog’s head or “unlock”  the D ring to open.  The nature of these collars means that they are primarily available as custom orders as they are ideally fitted to your specific dog.

Our priciest BioThane® collars are our specialty and custom works.  These often combine multiple layers of standard or printed biothane with blingy crystals, fun rivets, etc. to compliment the unique personality of your dog.  While we do occasionally make pre-mades in this category, the majority of these works are based on custom commissions.  To start your custom creation, email pandemoniumpets@gmail.com.

Biothane Leashes
We have a leash for every circumstance, from getting around town, to a hand’s-free belt, to tracking lines and slip leashes.  As with all our BioThane products, the majority of our leashes are machine sewn for greater durability.

Our leashes come in a variety of widths, including ¼ inch rope, 5/8-inch grippy, ½ inch and ¾ inch standard.  In addition, we offer a choice of hardware finishes, including nickel, brass and black, as well as a selection of snaps including: swivel, scissor and locking carabiner.

Our basic leash is 6ft, ¾ inch BioThane with a swivel snap, but we offer a variety of lengths (from 4ft to 30ft) in a multitude of colours and a wide choice of hardware.   Obedience and Rally-O competitors may find our light weight ¼ inch rope and ½ inch standard ideal for navigating the ring, while the avid hikers may gravitate to the hand’s-free belt and nosework enthusiasts will love our 12 foot line.  Starting in 2025 we will also be adding 5/8 inch Grippy BioThane® to our offerings.

Long Lines
Long lines, leashes ranging from 12 to 30 ft in length, are ideal not only for sports like Tracking and Nosework, but are the perfect option for sniffy walks too!  For sports contexts, we highly recommend the lighter ½ inch line with a small clip to allow your dog to search independently.  Whereas for sniffy walks, we suggest either the ½ inch with the heavier clip or the ¾ inch width leash.

Hand’s Free Belt
This item was originally developed to help the owner walk her four dogs while keeping her hands free for training purposes.  The walking belt consists of a double-layer of BioThane® with three points of attachment for leashes.  The belt comes standard with one 4 foot, ¾ inch wide, double-ended line with swivel snaps that can be easily attached and moved on the belt.  However, for those who want a bit more flexibility of use, we recommend the combination of a Traffic leash with the 4 ft leash, this way you can unclip both to use as a regular leash with a handle, or easily attach them back to the belt.
A NOTE ON SAFETY: we recommend that you do not walk more dogs that you can control.  Furthermore, if you are working with strong pullers we do recommend the use of a no-pull harness or head halter in conjunction with the hands-free belt.

 

Slip Leashes

Slip leashes are popular in the dog sports world, especially agility, as a way to quickly leash and unleash your dog between their crate and the ring.  Our BioThane® slip leashes offer the functionality of our fabric slip leashes with an easy-to-clean, durable finish.  We offer them in a variety of price points ranging from the simple Pocket Slip to the Double-Layer Martingale Slip.

The Pocket Slip leash consists of a single layer of BioThane® (either ¼ inch rope, or ½ inch or ¾ inch standard weight) that forms a loop (with an adjustable limiter) around your dog’s neck.  This leash is specifically designed to fit into your pocket when not in use.

The Simple Slip is a similar design to the pocket leash but with a second, wider, layer of BioThane around the neck for added comfort.  This leash is available in ½ inch and ¾ inch widths.

The single layer Martingale Slip most resembles out fabric slip leashes, consisting of a neck portion sized to your dog (in widths up to 1.5 inches) and a looped leash section (in ¼ inch rope or ½ inch or ¾ inch standard).  These leashes can also be made with HTV printed sections or UV printed BioThane® upon request.

Finally, the double-layered martingale slip is our most expensive, but most customizable, offering.  Constructed in a similar way to the single layer version, this leash includes two layers of biothane around the neck section.  This can also be combined with HTV or UV printed BioThane in addition to other decorative elements.  To start your custom creation – email pandemoniumpets@gmail.com today!
