Tug Toys

We offer a wide variety of tug toys to satisfy YOUR dog's style of play: whether your dog needs a simple toy to stay focused or would prefer something with lots of fur and tassels to help get them moving - we have you covered!  And if you don't see what you are looking for - CONTACT US and we can help make a custom toy for you and your dog.

Simple tugs and Bungee Tugs

We offer a variety of tug toys to suit different needs and budgets, from our simple hand-brained fleece to more complex toys with bungee handles (to save your shoulders!).

Our standard bungee length is 9 inches of bungee with 7 inches of handle - once a toy is attached this often averages a two-foot long tug.  If you require something a little longer, let us know and we can extent the length of the tug so it is easier to drag.
For ease of use we also offer the "Shorty" bungee option - 4 inches of bungee instead of 9.

What is the easiest way to train multiple dogs in multiple sports without spending all your time training: GOOD FOUNDATIONS!

My goal when teaching any new dog is to focus on solid foundation behaviors that make later stages of training easier!  While this includes physical skills (like targeting, play, and body awareness) it starts with reinforcement strategies that build a positive association for training with me and patterns that help make training more predictable, easier and enjoyable for the dog.  In this workshop, we will start with the most BASIC foundations: how to earn rewards (including some Control Unleashed pattern games) and build up to more complex behaviours that form the basis for many sports.  For those further along in their training journeys we can also discuss how to use these foundations to shape behaviours SPECIFIC to your venue of choice.

Topics covered include:

-       Reinforcement strategies (including concepts like errorless learning and location specific markers in addition to what types of reinforcement to use when)

-       Human skills (using your ABCs to set you and your dog up for success)

-       Classroom and Trial skills (waiting your turn, working through distractions, optimizing arousal, fading reinforcement in the ring, etc.)

-       Physical Skills (using props and targets to build solid behaviours in multiple sport venues)

The goal of this workshop is to provide the essential skills (for human and canine) that will enable you to get the most out of your training time.  While the workshop is geared to puppies and young dogs, the foundation skills explored are perfect for helping problem solve training issues (such as disengagement and over arousal) that can pop up as you prepare for the competition environment.

Introduction to Nosework Workshop

When: February 12, 10 - 1pm
Where: Canadian Canine College, 2097 Windham East Quarterline Road Vanessa, ON  N0E 1V0

Cost: Working Spot:  $120 (including HST)(includes scent kit - it is recommended that you arrange to pick this up at least 1 week early (6 dogs max)

*Working dogs please bring a colander and bowl with you to the workshop
Auditing Spot: $55 (including HST) - auditors come without their dogs but get access to all of the material and a starters scent kit (Q tips, storage container and holder).

The sport of nosework has been getting a lot of attention lately, and rightly so!  Not only is it an excellent enrichment activity that you can easily pursue at home, but the activity of sniffing and searching can aid in reducing anxious behaviours in some dogs!

This workshop is designed to give you an initial taste for nosework training: to set you up to either continue to work at home or in a classroom environment.  All students will receive a basic scent kit including pre-scented Q-tips (birch), a storage tin and a working tin.  Working students are strongly encouraged to either pick-up the scented Q-tips and storage containers so that they can start conditioning odor before coming to the workshop.  Working students will also be required to bring a bowl and a colander (that they will use only for nosework).

The workshop itself will focus on foundation behaviours for nosework; this includes some hunting games using food to help build interest as well as practice with the scented Q-tips.  We will discuss how to set hides, care for ‘hot’ items, work around distractions and when to introduce challenges.  We will talk about the world of scent from the dog’s perspective and how this helps you plan your training.  At the end of the workshop students will be provided with a handout detailing the next steps in the process in addition to providing some resources including online and local instructors who run regular nosework classes.
